mdehnersI was Reading and Chuck was watching some movie on Netflix. Seemed cute, an Elderly Lesbian couple dealing with...being Elderly. The "churchy" granddaughter shows up and I began to have a sinking feeling. Yup, she gets her grandmother committed to a nursing home(by tricking her into signing papers) and has the cops take her away from her Partner of DECADES. I had to leave the room.
I need more than one hand to count how many times this happened to friends or friends of friends in the early to mid 80's. Usually, their Partners never saw them again.....not even at the funeral. If they were LUCKY they MIGHT find out where their Partners were buried so they could visit their graves. Not an often occurrence.
Some folks wonder why I have a "thing" about JCI Faiths(though I only experienced the J and C though if I'd known any I the experience would have been worse).
When I came back in he'd gone looking for something less "sad". My stomach is still upset. I guess I haven't worked through all that crap;>.....

Date: 2021-06-09 01:10 am (UTC)Homophobic or transphobic relatives taking gay or trans people away from their partners, or taking over the estate and turfing out multi-year partners with only the clothes on their backs. This is why marriage is better than domestic partnership - with marriage the spouse *by law* gets the lions share and the right to make medical decisions.
That's why my spouse and I are married - not for sex, but to make sure that she is safe if something happens to me.

Date: 2021-06-10 05:30 am (UTC)It's bad enough that my sister tries to get my mom to "get rid of her cats" and move into either their frigid basement in Illinois (and live strictly by their "rules") or go into "assisted living" that is more that what she can afford, again with no pets and lots of rules. My little sister's idea of proper living is hell. She didn't even teach her daughter to sew, FFS.
