mdehnersThis time of yr you can definitely tell why they call it the Smokey Mts...it's foggier here than it was in San Francisco;>! I literally couldn't see the car in front of me day before yesterday. The trees are beginnig to turn colors; it's nice to live in an area again that does.
Discovered last week on one of my AM walks that a neighbor has a female Native Persimmon tree in their yard, so that means that:
1: Persimmons do well here
2: There's a male nearby to Pollenate so I could get one of those kinds that change flavor when pollenated
There's a number of Apple trees and a shiteload of blackberry brambles in our neighborhood too!
Healthwise, both of us are doing ok. We'll have Medicare-D coverage again on the 1st and yesterday I went through a procedure that should(if the test last week is any indication) help with the pain markedly. It'd be nice to be able to be more Active again.
Thanks to the family I've a couple of raised beds that I can sit in my walker seat and work. Actually, I pretty much planted everything that wasn't to tender for this zone or needs to be in the ground du to it's eventual size. I've 2 pots of Habreanthus(Rainlily) so I planted one to test hardiness. If it comes through ok I'll plant the rest in Spring. I also have a shiteload of seeds Stratifying in the fridge to be planted in Feb, including a number of herb used in Appalachian Medicine and Magic. I planted some Ramps bulbs a couple months ago and won't know until Spring if they made it. Always wanted to try them;>!
We ordered our Yule tree and it arrived this week. I figured since Demons-Mart had only a single Halloween aisle that depending on them to have what we need would be foolish. Last yr we had a live tree since Chuck's been wanting one for decades but when I asked this yr he said "Plastic". It 'll probably be my memorial tree if it lasts a couple of yrs if he does. Saw a couple of cute Pink fabric Gnomes in online Xmas decorations and we'll have ourselves on the tree too;>
