Book Series Recommendation...
Apr. 13th, 2010 03:28 pmI'd like to recommend the Adventures of Bob from "The Laundry" by the British author Charles Stross for all my Computer Geek friends out there. Picture "MIB"s aliens from other Universes and run by folks like the British version of 'The Office'....
Bob is an IT guy and Hacker that works for 'The Luandry' Britain's protection against all things Metaphysical and Extradimensional. He's not sure which is worse, a slavering Cthuloid Entity or the folks from Accounting. Anyone who's ever worked in gov't or a big company will "Get" this series. In one adventure Bob saves at least London from someone Possessed by something from the "Dungeon Demensions" and is almost Fired because:
He didn't send in the paperwork ahead of time
Used a fire extinquisher in a manner not recommended by the manufacturer
As the subtitle of the 1st book, 'The Atrocity Archives'(in which you find out that "The Final Solution" was a Necromantic Spell that was to allow the nazis the ability to "Gate" anywhere on the globe...) says, "Saving the World is Bob Howard's job. There are a surprising number of meetings involved."
Cheers,
Pat
