Warning! Botanidrivel!
May. 15th, 2010 06:48 amFinished up two more Breeding projects, one a complete failure the other....eeehhh.
The failure was the last chance using Sinningia speciosa(that's Florist Gloxinia to the "Mundanes";>)collected variety AC1503 with another Gloxie. While AC1503's compact size, quick reblooming and minimal Dormancy passed, so, as usual the blossom form and colours. Two that didn't were deformed...
The Ehhh was using Sinningia guttata as "Papa" on the same AC1503. Guttata's vegitative form and blossom shape were Dominant but AC1503's colouring was. The + is that guttata is a white-flowered species so the results are basically guttatas in various shades of Purple. The problem? Purple is the dominant colour of Sinningia species and hybrids so yet another Purple, even with a species normally white isn't going to impress the picky tastes of Plant People. So far, there are two I'm keeping for myself simply 'cause they're pretty; a dark purple and a lavender with purple spots...
Cheers,
Pat
