Is Honesty a "Heathen Value"?
Jul. 14th, 2004 05:59 pmMaybe it was my military upbringing. Maybe the Boy Scouts. Maybe all the yrs in CR and dealing with Grail and Arthurian material but I had projected an Image of what a Heathen was and quite often the Reality fell short.
I found basically two forms of Dis-Honesty. One, for a better term is "Honest" Dishonesty. That is, they KNOW what they are saying isn't True, but it supports a particular Ideology/Agenda/etc the person(s) subscribe to. I usually find it easy to discover because when "Called" on the subject matter the response is always some sort of Emotionally-loaded tirade.
The Other, more Insidious is also done Knowingly but isn't considered "Wrong" because the "Lied To" are either un-Heathen or Not-Their-Kind of HEathen. They will often Justify this by a few stanzas scattered throughout the Lore...Ignoring the Greater amt of material in the Lore that supports Value/Virtue/Ethics/etc no matter WHAT....
Just another depressing disappointing day...though on the Amusing AND Annoying side Stormy has learned how to activate "Voice-Activated" devices. Even with his wings clipped he can maintain a "controlled plummet" to get to the coffee table to get a sound-activated Dragon to "Roar". If it wasn't so Irritating it'd be helarious...
