"Fluffy" Twits...
Aug. 3rd, 2004 05:08 pmYesterday, on my way to check the mailbox, I found a Mourning Dove fledgling covered with flies and ants. I brushed them off and made a next for it in a box on the screened porch and gave it some water and moist bread,,,which it ate. An hr or two later I washed off the dirt on it and found that it had probably been driven from the nest, not fallen. It had a couple of absesses full of maggots, one as big as it's head. I decided to end it's suffering and wrung it's neck but unfortuneately, due to being almost 4 decades out of practice I didn't do it right. It bothered me because due to my incompetence it suffered more than it had to. Not long, at the most 20" but still...
Now, I didn't mention it on a Heathen list because it would just start the usual anti-Gay crap but I got the other reaction from one of my "support" lists. Appearently, even though I didn't have any money (I didn't get paid till today) and the car's broken down I was somehow supposed to have it "Humanly euthanized".Even though the vast majority of folks wouldn't have even picked it up, let alone decrease it's distress for it's last couple of hrs in Midgard.
Now, I'm an Omnivore and have no problem with killing....ANYTHING. My distress was because due to my "rusty skills", unnecessary suffering was created...

Pat
