They Killed Halloween! You Bastards!

mdehnersAs I was breaking down the decorations this morning, I noticed something that would have NEVER happened when I was a child. A mostly full bowl of candy! This yr there was less than a 1/3 of the previous Halloween’s “Trick-R-Treaters”. As was the yr Before that. How did this happen? How did THE most fun holiday of Childhood fade to a few lit homes in a Sea of Darkness?
I’ll tell you. Halloween has been under siege for Decades from two Fronts BECAUSE of the SAME Belief. That Belief of BOTH Sides is that Halloween denigrates their PARTICULAR Belief-System. On one Side…Conservative Christians. On the other…Neopagans. Both were and are Out to Destroy the Traditional American Halloween. Again, for the SAME REASON!
To the Conservative Christian, an Article of Faith is that members of a non-JCI Faith (Judeo-Christian Islamic) Follow either Demons or Nothing at all. Some of those Christians would include Jews and Muslims, some would EVEN consider other Christian denominations than theirs “Demon-worshippers”! In this World-View ANY tacit support, even that of non-Aggression is considered “Siding with Satan”…
To the Neopagan, Halloween is a “Parody” of their Beliefs about Themselves and of History….PERIOD. Many will take to the Media to “Educate the Public about the REAL
Meaning of Halloween” though their Beliefs often have little to do with those that ACTUALLY Celebrated the Historical Celtic Holy Day of Samhain before the Conversion of the various Celtic Nations…
BOTH are Self-Righteous, BOTH don’t care about how their Actions affect Others (esp. children…), both could CARE LESS about ANYTHING but their “Take” on History, which in BOTH of their cases has little to do with what ACTUALLY happened…
What can one do? Well, as the Saying goes, “You can’t Change a Closed-Mind”. Arguing with EITHER side is pretty much non-productive. The only thing you REALLY can do is to just DO IT!
Be that “Candle in the Darkness” and put it in a Jack-O-Lantern! Decorate your house! Invite your friends over for an ACTUAL Old-Fashioned Halloween! Tell your Christian AND your Pagan Friends to LIGHTEN UP and GET A LIFE!
