Below is a response to a series of columns and articles in our local paper since the Election...
I’m one of "Those People" that is Deeply Worried about the Ethical and Moral Standards of Today’s Pop American Culture, as well as that Culture in General. I’m One of Those that would have “checked” that box off if there had been someone out at my polling place when I voted, but since I vote as early as possible, that means these folks weren't up yet...
I Know folks who DID. GUESS WHAT? None were CHRISTIANS! I’ve waited to see if the sloppy Journalists were going to point out that not all of those “Concerned about Moral Values” are members of a Christian Denomination. Didn’t happen…
Yes, a few pointed out that the definition of “Moral Values” shifts from Denomination to Denomination and from Ethnicity to Ethnicity but still the Argument was/is being Framed as one of an Upwelling of Christian Fervor. Yes, most Religions have the Majority of their Ethics and Morals in Common BUT there are areas that aren’t. Oddly enough, two of the so called “Moral Value” positions; Gay Marriage and Abortion aren’t issues in my denomination of my Faith and that of a number of other Faiths. Mine is more Interested in the Lack of Personal Discipline and Responsibility in Today’s Culture. Gay Marriage? Great. Monogamy with Legal and Financial Repercussions for Adultery. Abortion? Use freakin Conraception or don’t have Sex.Rape,Incest,Life of the Mother and device Malfuction Excepted. While that Sounds almost “Pro-Life” I’ve YET to run into a pro-Contraception Christian “pro-lifer”. Sorry, unlike the Monty Python song, “Every Sperm” is NOT Sacred. Not EVERY egg either. If they were, there would be no Menstruation or “Nocturnal Emissions” which are Intrinsic to the Human Condition….unless you subscribe to some sort of Psychotic Malevolent Deity that sets you up to automatically Fail for things you have no Control over. If so, that’s your Problem, not that of those not of your “Belief-system”…
Not Everyone who HAS or IS concerned about “Moral Values” are Christian…
Sincerely,
