Once again that old chestnut, "The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend" has raised it's head on one of my Heathen lists. It's funny how it's always the Inexperienced that bring it up. Those who've been arround for awhile Know this is not a Truth. Just because a particular Enemy is fighting you and Another(or Others..)doesn't mean that those have Yours in their Best Interest...or even that your Enemy is Wrong to consider them "Dangerous" in the first place...
"Common Cause" always sounds like a good Idea until Reality steps in, usually after one group has done all the "Grunt", Time and Financial Work to find out it was wasted Effort...Effort, Time and Money that would have been better spent taking care of their own "bidness" instead of Hoping that those Others would act as Honorably as you.
While I Truly Believe that "A Gift asks for a Gift", I also Believe that Balance when Groups instead of Individuals are Involved happen over TImespans that may not allow you to feel Vindicated for your Royal "Screwing".
Sometimes "The Enemy of my Enemy" is more Dangerous in the long run. Ask a Briton about "Danegeld" sometime. Or anyone about the French...
Troth,
Pat
