Here we go again....
Feb. 2nd, 2005 01:15 pmMEM-reez, like the corners of MY MINE-d< G >…..
It’s funny(well, actually Sad…) how some things are Eternal. My local Neopagan community, at least it’s Leaders/Talking Heads/Those that Actually DO the Work/etc is beginning to Show the Signs. I remember a study done a few yrs back on Neopagans which found the average Life-Expectancy of an Individual group was about 7 yrs, with the different stages…sort of like a Kubler-Ross for Neopagans.. We’re three yrs ahead of schedule< G >!
While the Regin Know Heathen groups aren’t Eternal and I’ve heard of no studies done about us, just from my experience we last a bit longer. Perhaps it’s because Heathenry, unlike Neopaganism, has a basically agreed upon Theology and Cosmology. We don’t “Re-invent the Wheel” with each person, with each group. We Know what the Heathen “Wheel” is and does. Basically, where the Regin and the Folk meet with a Horn, that’s Heathenry at it’s most Basic….
It’s funny, We argue about the Importance of Ancestry is in Heathenry, how “Tru” the Lore is, Where do you go when you Die, what are the 18 Runes The Old Man Speaks of, etc. They argue over how appropriate it is using SCA or Amtgard terms when at non-SCA or Amtgard events. How possibly having a Rite at Night, in the Dark, in the Woods without kids under 11 is “Anti-Family”. It goes on-n-on…
Now, I’ve been involved with the Neopagan community since the early “80’s” after I left Wicca and have friends who are but there are times that I want to “Slap them all Silly” for “mucking about in the Lower-Astral”(as my old HPS used to say…), making big Deals out of the Inconsequential and ignoring the Important things and questions in Life…
I’m Feeling particularly Old today….
Troth,
Pat
