been a bit down the last couple of weeks and the last couple of days haven't helped. Nothing personally, just news. Not the sort your local or nat'l newsgroup would cover. After all, it's News if a woman or non-Euro is killed or beaten and almost killed by the cops. It's not if it's a Lesbian or Gay person. Nice to know the guy the cops beat almost to death in Texas is off the ventilator though. Silly Gay people. Thinking you can be Gay in a Gay bar in most of the US....
I was a bit surprised that the murdered Military guy wasn't...after all, he was also Black. But then again, the Black Community likes to call Homosexuality "The EUropean Disease" so they'll let his murder pass......probably since it was probably Blacks that beat him to Death anyway. Why get a brother in trouble for something so minor as killing a Gay soldier?

I did read about the Texas bar raid in supergee's DW: http://supergee.dreamwidth.org/50057.html - hadn't realized the guy was so seriously injured though. And I got in a nasty exchange in mister_six's LJ recently with a cop who's actually proud of watching surveillance cameras of the public streets for a living, and assumed that since I was revolted, I must live a sheltered life. Hadn't heard about the military guy, but I also expressed outrage to supergee a few months ago about his endorsement of a Shakesville statement that gays are privileged because they're mostly white men.

It's time for this arithmetic of "privilege" to cease and equal to mean equal.

What gets me is how oft these assholes are Beleived by the gen Het public. In the last 3+decades I've been "Out" I've been through a number of Raids, Shakedowns, etc by Cops in bars. NO Gay man(and I'm assuming Lesbians but I Know better than to Speak for them;>)would "feel up" a Cop during one. Even a Suicidal Guy would KNow better.
A friend how happened to BE a Cop prefered to "deal" Gay bars to those of others because there was less chance of Violence to their Persons, even when they were the Instigators.
On one of the blogs I follow a while back there were a couple good responses to the old Rich WHite Gay thing. Other than the OBVIOUS that when you don't have kids OR an obsession with owning your own Property, you have more disposable Income, there is PLANNING. Many Gays, moi INCLUDED knew that unlike their Het friends if they were going to be able to Live their Lives they would have to be Self-Supporting. I don't know of ANY Het that has had their family disown them for Dating someone of the same Socio-economic level and education, yet when I was in college it was SOP that if your folks found out that you dated someone with similar Plumbing, IF you were Lucky, you'd end up in some lab with electrodes attached to your Privates. The others simply had to scramble to survive without support. When you know in your early teens that the ONLY way you can have ANY kind of life you haveto be self-supporting, you tend to do better than someone who doesn't plan on worrying about such until their Junior yr of college....
