Why I keep being Surprised about those who Know Knowing about a subject being such “Know-It-All’s” about said subject is beyond me. Listening to Bigoted Christians or Hets(when they think they’re “With Their Own Kind”) “bitch” about “Special Rights” when what they really mean is the Same Ones that we “Real People” have is Enlightening. It’s all about “Turf”. Any time someone other than themselves is going to be given the SAME RIGHTS as THEM, it Offends them…because OTHER=Subhuman instead of simply OTHER. Oddly enough, the best comedic Illustration of this is a character in a Fantasy series by David Eddings. A Church Knight, he thinks he’s being Kind to those not of his Church or his Station because he thinks of them as somehow “Retarded”. He Believes that Others Know that their Ways(religion, language, etc) are Wrong and they do them anyway out of “Stubbornness”. In one scene he explains why they’re so bad at speaking Real Language is that they are actually Thinking in it, Translating it in their heads out of stubbornness into “Foreign Gobbledygook” , then back into “Real Words”. The attitude is not Unusual in Bigots. An old roomates’ Ex once told me that now that there was an MCC Church(a Christian Denomination that Ministers to mostly GLBT-folk) in our neighborhood that I could stop “Playing at Religion and join a real one”. My folks have a part of them that still thinks being Gay or/and Heathen are just “Phases” that one goes through when they’re “Immature” and will “Grow up” someday, even after more than a quarter century;>…
There are none so “Blind” as those that Refuse to Accept that others have “Eyes”. If you and yours are at the top of the Cultural “Heap”, it’s not Surprising you “Look Down” on those further down(or not even allowed on…) your “Heap”, esp if your Elevated position is due to Birth Race, Religion or Orientation. After all, you didn’t DO anything to get “It”, so it’s Easy…Right? So if you aren’t there or given the same things, it’s something you did….isn’t it?
And if it’s your Fault, then being treated the same is Wrong…isn’t it?
