"Bad" Parents and CHildhoods...
Nov. 12th, 2006 10:25 pmIt’s been SOP in the last couple of decades to blame your parents and your Childhood for the Actions you take in Life. What I continually find Odd is that these “Horror Stories” usually present a “better” one than mine! Perspective IS, I guess;>
I was Raised in a military family. Not just that, an OVERSEAS military family. We moved no less than every 3 yrs until I was past 13. Sometimes we wouldn’t see Dad for more than a yr. Mom often had to Work and left me and my little brother with those with little English, in the Summers for more than a month. With the attempt to kill me exempted;>, I consider myself to have had a Wonderful Childhood.
1st was that I was Raised in a culture that only Rank differentiated you, not Race, Ethnicity or Religion(at least from a kid’s eye POV…).
2nd was that I Learned how to mix with other peoples WHILE not confusing being Friendly and being Friends with.
3rd was that all of us were Outsiders, since seldom had your classmates been with you the previous Grade, heck, most hadn’t been in the same country;>!
4th was that you are Responsible for yourself Ultimately.
5th was that it is difficult to Believe that there is a “One, True and Only” religion with you are Exposed to so many of them;>!
6th was that the US was the best country compared to those you lived in(again, from a kid’s POV. They don’t care about how “Spiritual” a culture is when they have to use a chamberpot or go outside to the “bathroom”…).
7th was that there is “magic” everywhere. In old buildings, in ruins, in woods, etc. Playing on the Parthenon, the Library or Ephesus or Troy where “stories” you’ve been told to were Lived are Life-changing for an entire Incarnation.
There are plenty more “lessons” from a Childhood that some would consider “Bad” but still I wouldn’t trade it for anything…
Troth,
Pat
