mdehnersHigh Summer is an odd time in my Florida Pahandle garden. Spring and SUmmer veggies are in(or mostly)and Fall is a bit away. Many things folks in the rest of the States consider "Summer" veggies die or go into a form of Dormancy due to the heat. It'll be September before Tomatoes start producing again, for instance. Peppers(esp Hot), Eggplants and some Tropical Herbs such as Basil or various Gingers are about it. Even things like SUmmer Squash die off, though usually from Humidity-enhanced fungal diseases.
Things like watersources for WIldlife(which are also Pleasing to the Wandwights)have to be checked at least every other day for Mosquitoe larvae. If I wasn't so blasted lazy I'd fix them up to be flushed out with every Sprinkler activation. Most of the Birds are now in their Adolescent plumage. Red-tailed Hawks and Ravens are well-fed from the not-so-graceful birds. Soon baby tortoises and froglets will make my Weeding and Mowing slower, though not what I would consider a "chore". Sadly, the Woodpecker couple that has been here since we moved in didn't show this yr. Their Oldest didn't either. Hopefully, it'll be back next Spring with a mate. The Holly looks so empty without them....though I don'ty miss their "fun" using the flashing as a "drum;>....
I did notice something I'd never before. The Landwights dissapear during Thunderstorms...
