Fairy Tale....

mdehnersOnce Upon a Time, not so long ago(at least to me;>) there was a Gathering of all the Big-nosed Folk who ran the various Gay & Lesbian orgs(this was before the Alphabet Soup…) to discuss what to do about AIDS ravaging the Folk. Each group presented their needs/wants/desires/agendas/etc. Each was given full attention, Processed, “grokked”, etc. This went on for weeks. Finally, a plan that all groups felt dealt with their “needs” AND would slow/stop Infection rates as well as Assist those already Ill(this was even before AZT). Just as things were about to be agreed finally, a voice piped up from the back of the room, “What about the Lesbians of El Salvador?”. It all fell apart and nothing EVER came about….
The Moral of the fable is that you can’t please everyone…so STOP TRYING TO!!!!!!
The only thing worse than “the Tyranny of the Minority” is the Tyranny of the Micro-Minority.
Now, the Minority isn’t just good at preventing things done in Progressive groups. It’s a great excuse as well. Sometimes Known as the “Yes, but” clause, it stops Progressive folk in their Tracks and you can hear it every day. I heard it only 15 minutes ago on a PBS channel. It’s related to the “Slippery Slope” that both Progressive and Conservative demagogues use to prevent anything getting done. “If, then”….
One of the “Good Things” about both being near the end of one’s Lifespan AND not having children is that you can tell both to Fuck Off….
