mdehnersIt’s an ongoing pet peeve of mine…Psychopagans, though I mean the term in the Generic. These Atheists use the Ways of others as tools “for Personal Growth and Fulfillment”. If cornered, their Usually Honest about not Believing that the God/desses, Afterlifes, etc. of the Way their “borging” Exist. What you hold Holy, they consider something for them to Use until their Bored with it…
Wicca. Paganism, Heathenry Hinduism, Buddhism, Native American and Aboriginal Ways, etc. all are fair game to these shites. And yes, the God/desses can take care of themselves(and do…look at these folks’ Lives…). One of the biggest damages they do is to the Reputations of our particular Ways.
One, Outsiders think THEY are the Rule, not the exception. When they hear our Ways spoken of, they think about that flake, who usually by now is off using yet another’s Way, tossing yours like a used Rubber…
Two, they “explain” our Ways in Atheist language, AS Atheists. We’ve all had to do “clean up” around this. “Yes, They DO Exist…THANKYOUVERYMUCH!!!!”. I HATE “Silly Season” because it’s often these doofusses that will be Interviewed in Garb, showing how the Way that they’re presently Using is used as a Self-Help tool….often pointing out that “Even Christians can, it’s not a religion, it’s a tool for Personal Growth”.
Three, if they’re not young, they’re Immature(this doesn’t mean Atheists are. I Know some damned Smart ones, some of who are older by quite a bit than me;>). This means that we Believers have to “deal” with folks who think that it’s time we grew up and stopped “playing religious D & D”. Outsiders accept it like they do Rocky Horror, D&D and LARP…fine until you get your 1st real job. Our Ways aren’t taken seriously often because we have folks explaining them AS games. Self-Help games but still…
Four, in particularly Paganism they can get positions of Power either within a group or as a “Spokesperson”…spreading the Lie. In Paganism particularly PC is so Ingrained that you are afraid to say anything . I remember the blow-ups in the early 90’s with the Religious Pagans Association. Even non-Atheists were Protesting because they felt that saying Atheists weren’t “real Wiccans or Pagans” was Separatist. It always amazes me why some folks don’t “get” why our Ways aren’t given the Respect they should. If you yourself don’t, why should another?
