Late Fall is odd here, compared to much of the country. The Native plants aren't generally colorful. Most of the brilliant foliage comes from Imported plants and trees, esp the EVIL Popcorn tree. An import from China, this plant was brought here by the same eejits that brought us Kudzu. Supposedly a cheap substitute for beeswax, the trees don't produce that Wax coating here for some reason, but do billions of white seeds that give the trees in fruit the look of, well Popcorn balls. Almost 100% germination and quick maturity makes them crowd out Native Trees. The fruits, while plentiful are not very nutritious and animals can stave on a diet of them. Spectacular in Fall though. An Infected forest looks like New England in Fall....
Oh well. The folks are on a cruise so the 1st ripe Mandarin Oranges their tree has produced when to ME! Much sweeter than store-bought. I thought it was another Lemon(they have 5, why I don't Know...)until the fruits this yr. WIth the exception of one Kaffir Lemon fruit, my Citrus didn't produce anything this yr. Only their Eureka Lemons didn't. Otherwise their trees are LOADED. So far about a bushel and a half from the Persimmon and the tree is still loaded. The next bushel goes into the dehydrator...
