It’s funny getting a ‘Narnia’ reference during a visit from The Old Man. To preface, of all the Regin, there are two that I Feel Uncomfortable with; The Old Man and His Blood Brother. Laufey’s Childe I trust not at all. Grimnir? To do the Right Thing…no matter how Unpleasant to myself or my family if needed. Over the last couple of yrs my reticence around Him has decreased but last night I got “popped” for Familiarity. “He’s NOT a Tame Lion” was the thought afterwards. I’d allowed my yrs around “Fluffy Folk” to Influence my view of Deity. Historically and to most of the world today, a Diety is NOT “A Warm Puppy”. They are also not your Personal Assistant(s), or Therapists. They’re not even our parents. They Are God/desses. ..
I was Listening to a bit of drivel about who was the “real” Santa. Neither Redbeard or the Old Man ARE, BTW. They ARE THEMSELVES. Sure, both have traditions of gifting and punishment but very few Deities DON’T. Unfortunately, these weenies weren’t doing a folklore exercise, they were literally figuring out who’s Name should be used for Fat Boy in the Red Suit. The FACT that Santa Myth we all grew up with is not much more than a century old never seems to mean much to these folks. I don’t Know why I get surprised. Some of the nicest folks I Know ignore everything and anything written that doesn’t agree with what they’ve decided is the “Truth About ___”, even when their Lives reflect that perhaps the Ancient Pagans and Heathens weren’t all Stupid…esp about the God/desses of their Peoples.
