I’ve noticed that I’ve become a lot less “punctual” since Coming Home to Heathenry. Back in my Wiccan and CR days, I was a “Temporal Nazi”. Right Date, Right Time. It wasn’t unusual to be out in the Woods in the middle of Winter with an alarm clock…just in case anyone dozed off during Vigil. The high point of any Rite was to coincide as close as possible to the exact time…down to the minute if possible. And such a feeling of failure if it was missed. Even by a few minutes.
Not so anymore. My Spiritual Life is more around the local Seasonal “clock” and to be Honest, I get more out of Rites to Individual and/or the Collective Regin than any “holy day”. In Truth, I’ve pretty much gone completely to this format, as opposed to a calendar-based holy day. Part certainly is the practicality of my Heathen Ancestors. Those obsessed with Astrological reasoning have a hard time “dealing” with how the Ancestors would hold certain Rites at markedly different times of the yr and not just because they adjusted for local environs. My UPGs have come to the conclusion that they held them when they held them, depending on their local conditions, both Environment and Cultural.
One thing about breaking from a “liturgical calendar” is that you actually get more done. How many times has a Rite not been done simply because you were unable to perform it at the right time? Of course, the Professional Procrastinator can “blow” this as well;>!
Of course, it helps that Heathenry isn’t heavy on the Agricultural holy days. …
Truth,
Pat
