Heathens like to joke, ”We have our own bible”. Unfortunately, it comes with it’s own ‘Book of Revelations’, the Voluspa’s stanzas 41 through 65. This is problematic because:
1: It’s a “heathenized” Christian plagiarism
2: It’s a Prophecy of our Future
3: It was a Prophecy that has already come to Pass
All have pluses and minuses. The pluses is that it “fits” with other IE myth cycles of Creation, Destruction…followed by Creation. I personally tend to Believe that there is less Christian “meddling” with non-Snorri material than many folks do. Maybe all the times I’ve had to listen to hippy-hindus;>. Also, the concept that the children of the God/desses of one era supplant them is fairly standard in mythology. That said, are we before or after the EVENT? I dunno. The case can be made in a way for both. A cultural Apocalypse certainly has happened. A Planetary one? Not yet…
So, what about the “kids”? I’ve run into very few that pay attention to them. Many can’t even name a couple of them. Is that a good idea? Personally, for yrs I’ve had repeated experiences around Viðar, Oðinn´s Son. It truth, part of it could be that in the surviving material he’s a less “problematic” figure than His Father. ‘Course, it could be that I’m a “boot” guy;>!
Recently Redbeard’s children have been making their appearances. 1st came Moði, who I couldn´t remember His name and was told in what book to look for it! Magni and Þruðr followed. Only Magni seems to have his Father´s disposition. His siblings seem a bit ‘irritable’. ´Course, in Þruðr´s case, being a strong Woman in that family could make you a bit cranky…
My personal “take” is that ALL the Regin should be at least Acknowledged(Yes, even Laufey’s Childe). I’ve recently added the Offspring’s Names whenever I Work with their Parents. It’s just good manners…
