Common Sense....
Jul. 5th, 2008 06:54 amI'm a "big fan" of Civil Rights. That said, there is a point where "Equal Access for all" becomes nutz.
A good example is the BS in the news lately about a "poor Autistic child" that a mean old church banned. When you see these reports(which for good reason NEVER show the "kid"), you think some waif is being picked on by a bunch of stuffy churchies. What's not mentioned is the "kid" weighes in at 225# and is taller than the average adult US male. The "acting out" that the poor dear did? "clocking" churchgoers. Peeing on a number of things DURING SERVICES(how many of you guys are allowed to "whip it out" and hose down Jesus?). Screaming Obsenities. And much more...
Now, I'm not a big fan of poorly raised average kids and do ignore to a certain point the outbursts of obviously handicapped kids(and adults) in public places...to a point. When "Equal Access" means that the average Joe has to accept getting Peed on or hit simply because the perpetrator is "handicapped" then I have a problem. I have friends, heck I'm MARRIED to someone with mental disabilities. I have no problem telling them when they are being inappropriate. In many cases they didn't now(that's part of their illness!)that they were and are (mostly;>)glad that I prevented them from doing something that later they'd be embarrassed about.Letting them act out is not helping them live in the world....

Pat
