It's Ornamental, Dear Watson;>!
Feb. 7th, 2012 12:38 pmFor a change all work in the yard was on that which is "Pretty"....no other purpose. Moving, replanting, dividing, etc of various Perennials about the yard.
I like a mixed Homestead. While I have my Veggie beds, I also grow them scattered amongst the Ornamentals and even around the beds. Yes, they help with Pollenation but they're there primarilly just for Looks. 'Course, come the "Porkyclipse", they hordes of Starving Fundies will just storm past my yard for someone with a "Farmer Brown" fetish;>.
Some of the older ones are showing that their time is near. A number of the Gardenias and the big Althea in front of the living room window are slowly declining, producing less replacement vegitation each yr. In fact, my fav branch to hang the suet feeder on had to be taken out, so now next Winter I won't be able to see the birds feeding form my desk. I'm thinking about just removing it and planting a self-fertile Asian Plum or maybe a Blooming Cherry.
This weather isn't helping things. It's so much warmer than usual a lot of things are coming out of Dormancy, some 6 weeks early. While the Forsythias and Banana Shrubs won't suffer, the Peaches and Pomegranite WILL. Heck, even the Frost-killed Bananas are putting out new leaves!
Cheers,
Pat
