Depressing....
Feb. 15th, 2012 07:31 amI was watching TV last night and a commercial came on that depressed the heck out of me. You've probably seen it; it's for a Smartphone and the actors in the commercial basically state that their lives come apart simply IF THE BATTERIES RUN LOW!!!! Sad thing, for many tech-addicts...it's TRUE.
Last big hurricane we had was back when all cell phones did was act as phones with an address book built in. In the weeks that the Power was off and the stores were closed, I watched a number of folks go basically into Withdrawl because they'd gotten used to NEVER having Silence in their Lives. We won't EVEN go into my nephew's reaction when the last of his Game machines batteries ran out;>
Well, today it's even worse. The next 'cane will probably fill the Psych Wards with folks whose Psyches are so unused to ANY sort of Discomfort. That is, if they can in general pull things together. Sadly, a high tech world requires high tech workers, most of which are Addicted to them. Next big disaster the folks who are needed to push the "reset" button will be the ones "Out of Order".
