Got everything but Boo-Boo's section Mowed. I have to remend myself not to beat myself up for taking a couple of days to do it...after all, with my regular health issues AND an inflamed herniated disk I did better than most guys PERIOD, not to mention of my age;>.
It MIGHT Rain today....I truly Hope so. The areas the sprinklers don't hit are parched,if not dying. Our Sandy soil doesn't help either.
So far no more blossoms on the 'Hosui' Asian Pear, while the 'Shinseki' is covered. Luckly, the 'S' is self-fertile, as well as tasty! I have to admit it, if you live where you can Grow them, I'd recommend Asian Pears over European. While they aren't as Sweet as some cultivars, their later blooming esp. in areas where "fickle frosts" can happen alone make them worth it. They also don't seem to have as many problems, esp here in the South. The biggest problem is the same as it is for the Asian Persimmon, certain cultures consider them both good luck AND fair game...no matter how close to the house you plant them. Luckly, Pears don't have the cachet that Persimmons do here. My folks are thinking of cutting theirs down because of the damage to their property fruit theives cause at night....
Cheers,
Pat
