Very Interesting.....
Feb. 28th, 2021 10:49 amSo, I've been studying Appalachian Folk Practices since SOMEDAY we'll be moving there and it's been pretty interesting. About 2/3rds is Western Herbal Medicine but it's seen through the lens of an Interesting combo of Classical 4 Humours, British Isles Magic, 1st Nations Beliefs and African Spirituality. The majority of diagnosis seems to be through the 4 Humours system though the 1st Nations and African Spirits as Causation is pretty strong. Mostly, disease is either caused by Physical or Spiritual "Toxins" and you either prevent or remove them.
For the most part Physical Toxins are dealt with by physical substances; Herbs, Minerals etc....some that were known poisons back in the 18th Century at least. Spiritual? That's where the Magic happens;>!Generally known as Rootwork or Conjure in the northern bits and Hoodoo in the Southern it's way to complicated for a newb like me to give a good account...other than the amt of Christian materiel used makes me uncomfortable. I'm not Eclectic enough to Feel comfortable with using most of the Spellwork noted in the books I've read. 'Course, I'd Feel the same if they were Voudoun Spells as well.
Cheers,
Pat
