There's a story that's been running on a number of the Gay newsgroups that's depressing. It's being reported that some of the "missions" run with Iraqi Police don't fit with what is generally considered criminal in the USA. I don't doubt it's happened without the soldier's knowlege, between language and cultural differences, if they're ordered to help a local police round up some "enemies of the state", they're probably going to assume that those "enemies" are the same ones they're there fighting, not folks that don't "fit" with the local mores and politics. It's hard for many to remember that outside of the West, an "enemy" is simply someone Not Like You; Ethnicity, Religion, Tribe, Orientation, etc. Most Westerners see the term "enemy" as political, not cultural....
As I said, I don't doubt some squads helped local police round up folks that weren't "enemies" by their definition. I DO that they did so both with knowlege AND INTENT. Personally? While I've known some bigots in Uniform, NONE of them would have KNOWINGLY helped round up Gays to be Executed. Unfortunately, a lot of "My Other Tribe" has a less Positive view of the military. 20 yrs ago...sure. Today? No way.

Pat
