mdehnersYesterday was pretty nice. We decided to go and see 'The Spiderwick Chronicles', which while good is yet another movie where disobediant children nearly bring(or in the case of '28 weeks Later' actually do...)the EOTWAWKI. Modern culture's "celebration" of rotten kids is something I'll never understand....
Family dinner was great as always. Mom got all fussy when she realised she hadn't made one of her traditional Easter dishes and went crazy in the kitchen whipping it up(a dish that most didn't get eaten and is now in our fridge;>). Chris and Sandi came over but the kids, being collegates din't want to "bother" with us old folks;>. Dad did well up to when they started showing Mom all the "bells & Whistles" on her new cell, which she'd got simply because the buttons are larger and lit....easier for the 80 yo eyes and hands. Both of them are obsessively techie(Heck, Chris IS in tech!)and even I was gettiing a bit annoyed with it at the table. Well some things don't change. Chris did the same thing when he was little;>.
I was a bit shocked at the venom from Sandi about Obama until I recognised the signs of someone who felt betrayed. She's a "sweet Spirit" whose never met a newage trend she hasn't jumped on and aparently was an "Obama Gurl" until the REv Wright material surfaced. Sadly, I'd mentioned at family dinners before back when I was working about my experiences in Black churches and was tuned out. After all, I'm a "race-traitor"(Gay and not "Progressive")and actually believe that God/desses exist instead of some Energy field that "Enlightened" folks can use to get whatever they want. Like many of those on the "fluffy side" their world-view is too brittle to deal with incoursions of info that contradicts theirs. Now she feels betrayed that she'd been supporting a Black Bigot. I tried to explain it to her that like usually supports like when push comes to shove. I've personally learned that message lately quite clearly. Trust only "your kind". Remember those that aren't are NOT and should not be expected to treat you as they would one of their own. It's just Human Nature and to rail against it is like complaining about Winter weather in....WINTER.
