As I’ve brought up in the Past, I’m lucky in that I don’t fit perfectly in any demographic. AS an Army Brat, growing up on-base is like growing up in a small town. Being stationed in a foreign city, the opposite. Being a teen in a small, religious town. An Adult in big cities. A Gay man who’s lived in places where there was nothing but potlucks to actual Gay Ghettos. Lived in and with the folks in all these places gives you a unique view….which oft gets you into trouble;>!
Politics is a good example. Having lived with folks most consider “The Enemy”, I know that not only are they multi-dimensional, they aren’t always wrong by your own standards, let alone theirs. Nothing Amuses me more than an Utgarðr of a group explaining what ‚‘They‘ reaaaallly Beleive or why they rrreeeeeeeaaaaalllyyyy do what they do. As a Gay man I hear this one a lot from Hets. As a Folkish Heathen, I hear this alot from Universalists and Neopagans. As a Socially Liberal, Fsically Conservative voter....from both Parties;>!
That's why I found Obama‘s FIM moment amusing. It‘s standard Urban Progressive BS about Rural folks. Note I didn‘t say Conservative Rural. My Liberal Rural friends Hunt and Fish, as well as are deeply religious. They just don‘t follow a "Book“ religion. They don‘t continue family tradtions that they love because of the Economy. They do it because they love it. They aren‘t Asa-Tru or Following the 3-Fold Law because the jobs pay shitty. They do so out of the Love of their God/desses.
I don‘t like ANY of the present candidates but right now if Obama wins the nomination(which he probably will), I will have to decide between someone I used to Respect and someone I never have...
'Course, if "Billery“ wins, I’ll have to hold my nose as well. As the Avenue Q song goes, ‘It Sucks to be Me’;>
Cheers,
Pat
