The Maimed God(s)....
Apr. 20th, 2008 11:57 amI’ve been Wondering lately about when Nordic Folk stopped the IE Belief about Wholeness being required for Kingship and how that pertains(ed) to the Gods. It started when Tyr showed me His Wrists. The stump was as if the hand had been removed less than a split second before, not even enough time to start Bleeding. What came to my mind was something from a David Eddings book about a Maimed God. In his book the Gandalf character stated that Humans, being Mortal have Healing built into them, the Gods, being Immortal do not. That meant that a wound would not only never Heal but would Feel as if eternally fresh.
This made me wonder if that was the basis of Godly “Body” Integrity. If the Pain of a wound bad enough to affect a God never Abaits, that God’s Attention may not be as Focused as it may need to be. Perhaps this is when Tyr was replaced by Oðinn. That would mean that the Binding of Fenris preceeds that of Oðinn´s Sacrifice of His Eye.
‘Course, if that’s so, why is He still the Leader? My UPG deals with the Nature of The Old Man…His Extreme Pragmatism. Tyr’s Legalistic Nature would not allow Him to Remain, even if the Other Regin Wished Him to. The Old Man’s Nature is such that if He Felt that He was the Best for the Job, He would remain…no matter what….
