Channeling Granny....
Apr. 21st, 2008 06:50 amI feel like I'm Channeling Granny from the 'Beverly Hillbillies' this morning. "'Possums got in the Taters!?!!!?!". It gnawed up the tubers of the Korean Sweet and Mountain Potatoes I was sprouting in the coldframe. The Sweet Potatoes aren't a loss since it left the green bits and they were going to be rooted anyway. The Mt Potato(an actual Yam, related to the Invasive Air Potato and the plant that gives veggie Estrogen...)however has had most of it's growth plate scarfed. If it doesn't rot, there's a pretty good chance the bit left will sprout....
Another disappointment isthat all of the blossoms on the Lemons that I can find have dropped without forming fruits. They either(or both) didn't get Pollinated due to the absense of Bees and/or the COld Snap was too much. On the Positive, the Garlics look like they've Adapted well to here(it usually takes growing and saving a cultivar in a particualr location a couple of times before it adapts to the new locale. 'Course, sometime they adapt so well that they become new ones...).
On the Woo-Woo front there's been no change with the House wights. Outdoors? That weird "stream" has stopped and the Land WIghts have spun/built a cone-shaped structure over it. Also, during the Full Moon there was a bunch milling rhythmicly arround a WHite Crinum(think Fragrant, Evergreen Amaryllis on Steroids). I could see how folks with more Imagination than me could percieve it as pixies dancing. Interestingly, this plant was given to me by a neighbor who as since Passed. Those in her yard don't Bloom. The one's given to me...do.
Truth,
Pat
