"If you don't like the Weather..."
May. 10th, 2008 06:28 amI'm reading one of my GLBT newsblogs and there's yet another churchgroup talking about how they need to change their church's view on non-Hets. I admit, I've never Understood it. Even back in th "70's", I saw things like George Carlin's character, Al Sleet did when he uttered his famous line,"If you don't like the weather where you are....MOVE!!!!!". If my folks hadn't been accepting, I'd have simply kept in touch with them through CHristmas cards so they knew where I was when they "got a clue". Until then, I was more than willing not to be where I wasn't "wanted". Luckly, I never had to go through with it.
Back in my Wiccan days, I was curious why the Lord and Lady didn't have European names, esp since we were Europe's "Old Relgion". My answer became appearent after a couple yrs...we weren't. I didn't try to change our Alexandrian TRad into something at least Inglisc, I left.
As history's pretty clear on, major changes don't happen within a religion. Minor ones, yes. Those attempting greater ones will either give up or start their own(usually stating that their's is more True;>). It's one of the reasons I think MCC(Metropolitan Community Churches) are "A Good Thing". Instead of trying to change individual Christian denominations, they simply started one of their own. Every major city has a couple of congregations and even small towns have MCC Prayer Groups. AS far as I'm concerned, if you're GLBT and a Beleiver in Christianity, that's where you should go.
Truth,
Pat
