Greeeen Acres is the Place for me!
May. 28th, 2008 07:38 amA bit overgrown(so...I hate Mowing;>!) but other than that, Looking Good! I little problem with Flea Beetles(as well as the regular kind on Boo-Boo but that's another story...)in the Sweet Potatoes but other than that, things are going well. It's Definitely Early Summer now, the 'Skeeters are out in full FOrce, esp in the AM. Luckly, I've got Toads as well as Tree Frogs and Bats to help out.
The 1st Tomatoes are forming from those that were started this Spring, not those from the ones I tried to get to produce over-winter in the coldframe. Too cold for that but not cold enough to kill all of them. Oddly enough, the one to survive is a Thai cultivar. It's 'Reg Turtle Egg'fruits are just colouring up. Sadly, I remember them being about as good as the best market type. Tied all of the vines up that have grown too floppy. This also keeps the birds off the fruits(or are they berries. Can't remember;>).
Getting annoyed that the Heirloom SP's I'd ordered in Jan haven't arrived yet but this is SOP with small, esp Organic companies. Schedules are for Squares, Man! Tomorrow I'll begin the 1st Garlic Harvest. The Creole Reds are ready and their spot will be perfect for those Cuban Hot Peppers that are ready to plant out. It's kind of late but I still have some Shimonita Negi to go out(a Japanese Leek relative). I doubt they'll make it though. My earlier attempts show that the young plants can't handle the SUmmers here but I hate to waste anything. Maybe I should use them as Chives;>!
Sadly, that Ginger I found under where the Cherokee Rose had taken over wasn't Tumeric but Galangal, not that this is a bad thing, just I would have liked to have found out Tumeric could survive here. Oh Well.....
Cheers,
Pat
