mdehnersI'm oft asked why I'm not a Republican or Libertarian by friends who are, and because they're friends Ichange the subject but yesterday....I was a bit tired(I mowed the lawn with a heat index of 105F). I stapped back, "Because I'm not well-off, Christian, Heterosexual or Selfish"...
Poor folks allow the Richers to manipulate them because, well, they'll be in in arms of "Cheezits" anyway so there's no real realson to want a better life for yourself. And kids? they go straight to Him anyway... Libertarianism has alway been about those who have making sure that they keep it, not helping up those who haven't been as fortunate.
Truth is that I haven't Voted for a single Republican or Libertarian since I've moved here. At least in big cities Pragmatism if not Evolution has given SOME of them an Understanding that folks who aren't Rich, Christian or Self-Absorbed aren't to be destroyed. Not here. I was getting my Labs done Monday and the tech was shaking his head at the Birthers and Deathers. He's Republican but he grew up in a city so he doesn't "Get" the craziness of the bigots. To him it's purely a big gov't "thang"....which I agree with. And since he's not well off and with a wife with breast cancer, he Knows they need the gov't to help so he finds himself Marginalized by his own Party. And while Christian, they're not "Churched" so their Party members tend to see his wife's cancer as simply the side effect of not going to church every Sunday. I'm one of the few folks he can talk to because his co-workers aren't Republican(all the bosses are, standard here...)and they look at him like he's nutz. 'Course, I've been telling him he should switch to Indep since there's NEVER going to be a Primary candidate locally(or nationally for that matter)that's going to be a fiscal Conservative(the Bush II's yrs taught him not to expect THAT ever again), just another "Pray for the Porkyclypse" type. Oh well....
As fro our local Demos? No frickkn way. Unlike Rep or Lib in cities I've lived in befgore where they became more Progressive on Social issues, here the Dems take their difference as a badge and go right out of the San Francisco playbook....drumcircles and all. Like that's going to convince someone who's being told at their churches that Dems are Satanic...drums and giant puppets.
Stupidity abounds. If it wasn't for Chuck I'd get on the fast track for my next Life.....
