Well, it looks like this yr's winner among the 'maters is 'Cosmonaut Volkov'(Red Russian), followed by 'Black Prince'(Black Baltic). Since Temps are already over 80F at night, that means that no more will form until Fall...if the plants survive. That means 'White Beauty'(White American) and 'Rose'(Pink American that wins taste tests over 'Brandywine') are a failure. 'Furry Yellow Hogg'(Yellow AMerican) has small fruit forming so there's Hope. Lost Label has zip. The Thai 'Pink Turtle Egg' is already producing but since it was Wintered over from Last Fall, it doesn't count...
The new Winner for Eggplant, surpassing the winner of the last 5 yrs(Cambodian Giant) is the Japanese Eggplant, 'Kamo'. Used in Shinto temple cooking, maybe it feels at home in a Heathen garden;>. Another Winner, another Japanese Heirloom, 'Suyu Nishinki' a Cuke. All the local standard AMerican Cukes, hybrids and Heirlooms have crop failures this yr. I'm the only source for fresh cukes;>!
The 'Litchii Tomato' is a failure as fruit. The plants do gangbusters but EVERY fruit has worms. The good thing is that these are the same pests that infest TOmatoes so I may keep them around as a Trap Crop since they prefer the Litchii to the regular 'maters. The wormy fruit get picked and dropped into a jar of old cooking oil and the local pest population is dropped wiothout Pesticides....
Everything is in with the exception of the Sweet Potatoes I ordered. They're a Northern COmpany and do all their Propagating Outside. I just hope the beds haven't Washed away.....
Cheers,
Pat
