INCOMING!!!!!!!
Jun. 22nd, 2008 09:28 amIn our local paper the editor came out being against the anti-"Gay Marriage" Amendment. Hope he has good antivirus software....
I didn't mention it again since I've had an article in it before on the subject but I do get annoyed at the way it's portrayed. It IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE Illegal to perform a non-Het Human Marriage between two people. The cops are NEVER going to kick in the door of some church, synagogue, temple, etc simply because the "plumbing" of the couple matches. Being recognised by the Federal gov't is another thing entirely...
One thing that gets overlooked is something that aids orgs discovered in the 90's as the epidemic became more of a Het than Homo "thang". Suddenly they had to "deal" with the added Suffering of the surviving Spouse from them being REsponsible for their husband's/wife's Debts. When a Gov't REcognised Pairing member DIes, the Survivor is Responsible for their Debts. Many aids orgs had to cope with the Emotional impact of counselling Divorcing your Ill husband/wife so that the Survivor didn't get stuck with the considerable bill that an end-stage aids patient racks up. That's why I'm Ambivolent on the subject. I'm GLAD that Chuck will not be stuck with my bills when I'm gone, as nice as the other "perks" would be...
Funny thing. I'm the ONLY member of my family to have a religious wedding. My parents, brothers and most recently my niece all DIDN'T...
Truth,
Pat
