One of Chuck's coworkers has Custody of her grandchild now. Sadly, she refuses to see her part in this little drama. She raised her daughter "free-range". She was never Punished, never told "no", simply allowed to learn "naturally". Thing is, what you learn usually is that someone will clean up your mess if you don't. EVERY parent of the "free-range" philosophy I've known is like that. They say they want their kids to learn naturally consequences of their actions but what they always do is simply go behind and clean up after their kids because they Know deep down that the WON'T on their own. They never learned that Actions have Reactions personally. They've learned that their actions will be taken care of by others.
Sadly, the reason she lost custody was something simple: she simply ignored a court order not to visit her most recent boyfriend who was on trial for bank robbery. A robbery that she was an accomplace in(she worked there for a short time before being fired for poor work habits...). She's still shocked that the court would Punish her at all...after all, she didn't point guns at anyone, so what's the biggie?
