Individuality....

mdehnersOne of the hardest things for folks not of a true Polytheistic background coming into one is that they have no background dealing with the concept of Individuality amongst God/desses. It's even worse for those that come up from Newage and Progressive churches. To them, Divinity is a warm fuzzy remote Something that generally brings Happy Gifts. Truly, about the level sophistication a pre-teen toward Santa or the Easter Bunny. So, they come into a Polytheistic Way and?
One of the things I tried to POUND into heads is that Individuals have Likes, Dislikes, Friends, Enemies, etc. Doesn't matter if it's Bob the Baker or Redbeard the Thunderer(except the size of the Tooland Power behind it;>). You need to find these things out. Lore, UPG, etc. LEARN. I can remember a grande fromage at ADF yr's ago who had a disasterous rite. He couldn't figure it out. It took me a few seconds. The Principals of the rite were Blood Enemies. One had had the Other's children Butchered. Can't see why things didn't go smoothly;>....
If God/desses are nothing more than some Energy Field folks can learn to Manipulate for their own Edification...that's one thing. If They AREN'T, they may take Offense at the way they are being treated. I PERSONALLY BEleive all Wealful God/desses are Tolerant to Honest Mistakes and Lack of Information. I PERSONALLY don't think They are about WILLFULL IGNORANCE.....
