BUT! They have Gay friends!

mdehnersI don't Know of a GLBT person who hasn't heard this "load" about Homophobes at least a couple times a month. PPPPUUUUULLLLLEEEEEEEZZZZZEEEEEE! I have them in my family. How do the "Phobes" justify this? By saying(or thinking) in various versions this:
"You're not like the rest of them. If only they were more like you".
Truth is, in the vast majority of cases, you're a pretty "generic" version of a non-Het. It's the Bigot's way of justifying in their own heads Hating folks that in truth are just like you. When I lived in DC and Dated a Bureau head we saw this ALL the time. "If "they" were all like you two, we wouldn't need these laws". I admit Wayne wasn't an average Gay. He had an income in 6 figures. Me? I worked in the Service Economy....can't get more "generic Fag" than that;>....
So when you hear some Homophobe explain that they aren't because they "have Gay friends", remember that you wouldn't buy it from a Bigot who stated that they weren't Racist because "they had Black friends" either. I guess one of the reasons this excuse Irrtiates me is that I'm usually that "Gay friend". My older brothers were very Involved with the Survivalist/Militia/White Power Movement since the late 60's. Because my brothers were so Respected in this community, their little brother was tolerated. It didn't hurt that I Rode(both horse and motorcycle), shot(my Dad's 357 Magnum. What can I say, that movie influenced me...even to the kind of guys I Dated) and was extremely Knowlegeable in Wilderness Survival. They Knew I was Gay but tuned it out. Over the yrs I'd heard some of them use me going shooting, drinking, riding, etc with them AND MY BROTHERS as why they weren't Homophobes. This is a big reason I tend to give the "hairy eyeball" to arseholes that are blatently Bigots but deny it by tossing up some token non-____ in their Life(the reason I did the ____ instead of White is because Blacks and Latinos are as if not more likely to be Homophobes than Whites...IME). Sure, I'd have fucked a number of them if they were Gay but since they weren't, they were "safe" from my "preditory instincts";>....
