Two Verold...

mdehnersIt's taken me a couple of decades, but I've come to the conclusion that there are basically two kinds of folks in alternative religions, no matter what they are.
One group is simply born into the wrong religion and Journeys to find the one that "fits" their Core Selfhood. The other group craves the different, the exotic, the new and as soon as it's no longer, they move on to the "newest, shiniest, flashiest" they can.
It can be hard to tell the difference between the former in Quest Mode and the Latter "Shopping" superficially. The best way is to look at their Depth of Commitment. The former digs to make sure if this ISN'T the One. The Latter digs for more complicated, flashier Rites. In my old coven the "Shoppers" got Weeded out quickly because our HPS didn't put up with BS. If you were there as a Postulant, you were there to LEARN the religion(as persented by our TRad;>). Shoppers are BORED with stuff involving Personal Growth and Deepening SPirtiual Experience...they want Drama, Flash, "MAGIC". And if those Rites or Rituals aren't "FUN", they do them half-arsed. I mean, you're supposed to be Fasting and you are too stupid to brush your teeth and get rid of your "Burger Breath"(as one did at a oh so Vegan Rite...)...
The problem is that in today's world Shoppers are treated like Seekers and Seekers are treated like dirt because they'e more Interested in the religion than "fluffing" the ego of the person whose running the local group, who oft is there because they and their friends have driven away any real ________'s.
All over the world there ARE serious practitioners of many alternative religions, their groups and orgs. They just no longer wish to deal with the silliness of a Public World run for Shoppers and those that support them.....
