Old Lessons Relearned.....

mdehnersOne thing that GLBT-folk have done over the last couple of decades is pretend that Tolerance=Acceptance. It doesn't. Personally? I prefer Tolerance over Hatred but for those who've read my blog before over the yrs Know, I've made this point a number of times, Tolerance ISN'T Acceptance....it's Tolerating something you don't like for peace in Public or private Interactions with the Tolerated.
To me, it's Funny how many of my Folk were surprised with how esp. Blacks Voted dealing with us. Obviously, they never lived as an Open person in a predominantly Black neighborhood. My memories of DC are full of being Spit on, Beaten and having my home wrecked. Today, those neighborhoods that once rang with the glee of God striking down the Fags now pretend the Epidemic didn't start until it began to affect their communities....though they're "nice" enough to Blame us for bringing it into the country. As if it was some Fag butt-fukking a monkey instead of some horny Bushmeat hunter....
A big thing,which has surprised a number of now ex-friends is that I took a Vote for these as a "deal-breaker". They can't Understand why it's such a big deal. Me, with a Wedding ring. I tried to point out to a Black woman member of my aids support group that it would be as if you'd found out that a White friend of your's had Voted to bring back separate White-Colored bathrooms. SHe didn't think it was the same. After all, Blacks had been Oppressed by Western cultures for 400 yrs, as opposed to +3000 if you count the Judean kingdoms. Ours was Ordained, theirs was a Travisty.....
The lesson that We have had to Remember that being Friendly isn't the same as being Friends. A majority of Het folks in AMerica have Proved by their Deeds that they may be friendly to their GLBT aquaintances but they are not FRIENDS. Trust accordingly. NEVER give Words the credence of DEEDS. My Folk in California esp. have learned that. Here in "The Dangly Bits", you don't expect much. After all a majority Beleives that the Earth was created BEFORE Mohenjo-Daro was swallowed up by the sands...but California? Needless to say, I may have to buy food grown in the state I'm living in but I don't have to that which was Imported....
