The Ghost of Bill Clinton.....
Nov. 14th, 2008 06:08 amIf you read GLBT blogs and zines, you'll notice something that most Het folks would be shocked about. A growing Reserve about Obama, thanks to both his support of Bigoted legislation and it's Passage. You see, we Remember Bill Clinton and how quickly he turned on us after he got Elected. Unlike "Slick Willy", Obama starts off stating he's not going to support Equal Rights for us. Add in the supposed "Betrayal" of the Black Community(which to anyone who wasn't a brain-dead Progressive would have told you WAS their View of us...) and many who Voted for him are waiting for the next shoe to drop. A lot of folks don't Realise how Deeply the GLBT Progressive movement was Shaken by the Voting of non-Euros. It's an "Article of Faith" for them that ALL "Oppressed" Peoples are "In It Together". This was that which had me leave Progressive Verold during the hayday of the Epidemic. Gays were Reviled and Spit on AT Protests FOR Racial Minority Rights....rallies that our Politicos encouraged us to attend. For me, it was realising that at rallies for Blacks that I went to, most of the Euros were GLBT-folk. At OUR Rallies? those non-Euros were other GLBT-folk. I LEARNED then and a new Generation is Learning....
Many now are going to be watching Obama to see if he pulls a Clinton. While I Voted for him, it was more a vote against someone who had, IMO Betrayed his Principles and Honor to get Elected. I don't expect things to get better for Mine under ANY Het Black man. Just that the alternative that was in bed with "The Agents of Intolerance" was a worse choice. Luckly, I've been Terminal for a while. See, there's always a Bright SIde;>!
Truth,
Pat
