I Harvestedthe Yam and Japanese Sweet Potatoes today. Really disappointed. While the Yam sized up well, it didn't produce any aerial tubers so there wasn't a net gain in plants for next yr. The JSP's? My Worry about their late Planting was spot on. poor tuber production. I decieded to simply put all of them in a big pot filled with compost and leave them to be Planted out in Spring. This doesn't bode well for the Purple and Brazilian SP's, though at least the Purples were much more Vigorous in vIne production. I'd dig them tomorrow. I don't like to do the cultivars of the same species in the same day for Pest and Disease COntrol.
The Kaffir Lime didn't like being shoved in the greenhouse and protested by dropping almost all it's fruits. Not really a problem because they're at the stage they'd be pick commercially anyway. Besides, Ripeness is a bit different with Limes and Lemons. They become more Complex in Flavor as they properly Ripen but not Sweeter and most folks aren't going to notice unless they had happened to have tastes something made with truly Ripe fruits. I personally love them with a little honey, garlic and ginger as a marinade for chix, fish or pork.....
My Blood Orange is doing better and hasn't even dropped a leaf. Yr after next I should have my 1st home-grown Oranges!
Cheers,
Pat
