Useful Boredom.....
Nov. 27th, 2008 12:24 pmWe're all just killingtime before heading over to the folks for Thanksgiving. Everyone except my nephew and my bro in Nevada's going to be there. Chuck started in the Yule crap and I began "THE SORTING":>
Amongst all the crap I collect are Holiday Cacti: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas...though I no longer have the REAL Christmas Cacti thanks to California's Quarentine laws. What I'll do after X-mas is check out the plant sales and buy those that look to be different. I grow them for a yr and when they start Blooming(which they are beginning to now), sort them into 3 divisions:
Something New
Another One, but a keeper
Doomed after Blooming, if I can't find anyone who wants it:>
This yr the big "Winner"(so Far) is a true Yellow. My old "Yellow" was really a Gold, having too much Orange in it. And, as usual mu rarest, actually from a nursery, 'Singapore' didn't produce buds. I think it's goingto be a permanent member of the greenhouse bunch.
The nice thing about these plants and thir larger relatives the Orchid Cacti(Epiphyllums) is that they grow outside here all yr long with the exception of Hard Freezes. And the thing is that Freeze time usually is Bloom time so they're in the house Looking Good anyway;>!
Cheers,
Pat
