Some nice surprises...
Sep. 8th, 2009 02:54 pmI tried a few new plants as usual and some were winners. One was the new Sunset hybrids of the Black-Eyed Susan Vine. In most of the US it's an Annual but here it usually comes back. I've never been a fan because I don't like Orange but these can come in all sorts of Sunset shades and the one that grew on the arbor at the front door is a streaked Fruit;raspberry, mango and lemon. I'm going to try to see if I can propagate it...just in case Winter's bad.
The same shades came from a Flowering Maple I picked up at the local Mastergarders sale. A nice surprise as well. Unfortunately, they're iffy hardiness-wise here so it stays in the pot and gets stored over winter. The Bamboo Mulygrass has done better than I expected, and the regular Muly is so pretty here that I knew it'd do well in our climate. Sort of a floppy Bamboo-looking grass. Nice sculptural look.
See! I can grow things not just for Utility;>!
Cheers,
Pat
