My Yule presents arrived and I immediately planted one, the Japanese Heirloom Satsuma, 'Owari'. Satsumas, like Kumquats are perfectly Hardy here in z8 so it's now in it's permanent spot in the yard.
The other was the "Red" Navel Orange, 'CaraCara'. Navels are borderline Hardy here but my Lulani Lemon is rated the same zone-wise and has done fine with minor Freeze Damage for the last 7 yrs so I decided to try it...esp. since 'CC's aren't usually available here. I'll put it in the greenhouse until SPring, then either plant it in the most Sheltered spots on the property(which are Shaded part of the Day) or plant it where it'll do best except during the coldest weather and simply protect it. Oh well. Don't have to decide till Feb;>....
Speaking of, I Harvested the Lulani. It's a Pink-fleshed Lemon that tastes like Lemonade(it's naturally sweet)that when unripe is striped like a watermelon. Kinda neat!
Cheers,
Pat
