mdehnersIt's funny, hearing my Dad come out of my mouth on so many subjects! Just part of getting older I guess. One area that I find "yungins" amusing is on Gay stuff. Yes, I said Gay and not the alphabet soup because truthfully, its the guy-on-guy that Pisses of the 'Phobes. Everyone else is less freaky, offensive and threatening to them.
Back in my college days, it was SOP for ANYONE to raid a Gay business,Not just the police...though it was them who did the arresting. Election times were esp. "fun". If you tell the average 20-something that when you were their age a card shop owner could be locked up for more than a decade for having a birthday card with two guys kissing, while a neighboring Het sex shoppe would be left alone for having flicks of women mating with non-Primate mammals, they'd think you were crazy. That Democratic candidates would shake down businesses for cash, promising not to help but not to have the harrassment increase. A truly Alien world to them...
Things are better. Not Good, not Equal but Better. TV now has "Starter Homos" instead of only the "Stepn Fetchit" Gay Minstral characters. Gay kids generally know that there is no "One True Church" or religion and have options other than Atheism, Closet or Suicide. They know, just by those attacking us that they aren't ALONE.
Like everything else, there are always blocks on the Path. One always has to remember that the Path continues on the other side of it and not a DEAD END....
