'Dune'.....
Jan. 16th, 2009 01:10 pmSaw the newest in the series at the library and it broguth up old memories.....
I remember when the original book came out. I didn't want to read it though friends kept at me to do so. The reason I didn't was that it hadn't been that long since we'd come back from being stationed in the Muslim world and I'd learned that what I'd seen, even as a kid wasn't the View that folks prefered. My folks were perfectly happy leaving me and my brother with our housekeeper for months at a time every Summer while they went to Europe, knowing that we would be "taken care of as if they were our own sons".
I remember Mosque quite well. How boring it was because everything was in Arabic, yet we were to "learn" the Koran. I remember stories about what Christianity "really" was...though all they really got right was the "not the One True" bit;>. Mom & Dad thought it was "nice" thatthey took us to their "services"....very "Educational".
In all my yrs since, I've never found anything to contradict my experinces about Islam OR religous Muslims. They're friendly when they think they can Convert you. They're nice when they can get something from you. The rest of the time you are less than a pig, "for they have no choce in being what they are...".
Maybe someday Islam will go through what Christianity began to a few centuries ago. Until then,I'm just glad I'm Terminal and Childless....
Truth,
Pat
