It's funny. 3rd week in January, cold as Hell and tonight another Freeze and what's coming up? Tomatoes!
Here in "The Dangly Bits", it gets too hot for Tomatoes about the time most folks are planting theirs. Our SPring is a lot like Alaskas....that is it goes from Winter to Summer with a couple of weeks in the middle to keep them from knocking together. If you want to grow them, you have to plant the seeds in early-mid January so they'll be blooming by the 1st of March. Mid April can get into the 90'sF, which shut down production with our Humidity.
So far the Russians 'Black Prince' and 'Cosmonaut Volkov', American 'Furry Yellow Hog','Rose', Wapsipnicon Peach'and German 'Snowball'are Germinated and doing well. These were all those I tried last yr but due to the economic downturn I'm using up what I have and am trying a different method of growing this yr:Perlite-lightened Mushroom compost with a time-released non-Organic fertilizer, though Organic methods of pest control will continue. After a couple of yrs of containerized susseptable plants(we have a high Nematode content in our soil), I've noted that the Organically-fertilised crops don't do as well as those with a good broad-spectrum Commercial...

Pat

Wizards didn’t kill ordinary people because:
a-they seldom noticed them
b-it wasn’t considered sporting
c-who’d do all the cooking and growing food and things?
