Almost Done Plant'n....
May. 5th, 2009 08:05 amEverything's in except the Yellow Bell Peppers and Western Squashes. Timing couldn't have been better for these storms; this Spring has been drier(Rainfall NOT Humidity!)than usual...
Got a bit of a "Volunteer" problem around the Akebia(Chocolate) Vines. Looks like pretty much every seed I spit out of the ripe fruit's Sprouted! If anyone's Interested in vigorous vines with sweet-scented Spring Blossoms(since the parents are Pink and White...) and fruit filled with Pina-COlada tasting seedy jelly, drop me a line and I'll save you some. They start Blooming generally the 3rd yr from seed....
Got a few tomatoes forming. Now for them to Ripen WITHOUT bird damage! The Pepino Seedlings are doing well. One has grown to 6" pot status. Perhaps I'll get some this Fall. The problem with Herbaceous Tropicals overwintering for me is that the Possums tend to find them...delicious. That's why I've given up on Papayas. They Ignore Bananas so the smaller plants can go in the greenhouse proper while the larger ones can go with the Plumerias in the shed and sleep. So far the Dwarf Namwa Banana looks promising for fruit this Fall. It's nearing the number of leaves needed for fruit production. The Honduras Station hybrid FHIA isn't as vigorous but I have hopes. I'm REEAAALLLY tempted to Try 'Ice Cream' and 'Viente Cohol' since both have reports of doing well here in z8. I hate having a limited Income! Meds or Plants. Hummmm;>.....
Cheers,
Pat
