Time to start collecting the seeds of Annual Crop and Ornamentals. Taking Cuttings of the tender stuff and prepping the "drag'n" plants for dragging into the greenhouse. Checking the Perennial and Woody Crops and Ornamentals for anything that might cause problems during the Cold Months ahead.
It looks like I've pretty much lost most of my Japanese Imperial Morning Glory collection. I'm down to Fujii Blue(Blue with White Star center and margin), Ukigumo(Watermarked Blue and White, "Floating Clouds") and Kaori(Pale Pink with Cherry Eye the size of a Saucer). And Kaori's iffy; only two seedpods on the vines. The rest have joined a lot of stuff that this yr's Heat, Humidity and Drought(well, until the last month):
Opium Poppy, Creole Red Garlic, Polish White Garlic, Limon Chile, Cambodian Green Eggplant, Egyptian Onion, Purple Fingerling Potato
Luckly, all of them have sources. I'm not the only one growing them so they aren't Extinct...
I'll be clearing the Western bed for Fall planting this week so that next week I can Manure and compost fill it for planting next month with the cooling Temps that are supposed to be coming. The other bed is too infiltrated with treeroots so I've got to digg up the sideboards so that it can return to being lawn and it's attendant Mowing. The only thing still growing in that bed is the Cassabnana, which grew poorly and didn't flower. Supposedly, this Melon relation is a Tender Perennial so I'll try both Cuttings and transplanting to see if maybe next yr in a different location would produce the plant's "Ground Papaya"...
Cheers,
Pat
